Sep 18 2007Japanese Card Game Looks Awesome

japanese-card-video-game.jpg

Not totally sure how it works or if we'll ever see it anywhere but Japan, but damn does this thing look like Magic on acid. It's a video game released by Taito at a recent arcade game show in the land of the rising sun. Apparently the touchscreen is interactive, and responds to the cards you place via RFID recognition. If anyone has any more information, or can make better sense of the translated page, feel free to add. All I know is I need one. I haven't had a good game of Magic in a long time. Mostly because I don't have any friends. That, and my freaking dog eats the cards when he loses. Poor sport.

A few more after the jump.

First!

heheh. Always wanted to do that.

And LoL, he plays magic...

Is that Microsoft's Surface table dealie they used?

Reminds me, somewhat, of the Yu Gi Oh anime. Playing cards down on a reader, then having the cards effects show up on a screen? All we need is a holographic projector and hurrah, 12 year old Yu Gi Oh fans all over the world will rejoice!

Ooo! That's special. I want. xD

these are old in japan... they were in the arcades 2 years ago.. and you see people slamming their palms onto the machine surface to pick up loot xD

we are so behind...

This is the sort of shit that makes me happy we are "behind" other parts of the world, especially Japan.

I'm from Hong Kong

There are many games like these imported from JApan..
but actually the way it works is not too complicate

the cards position and orientation was read by the board,
thus allow user to control the character's movements

theres another football game and war game I've seen using the same method to play too..
and in the football game, ppl need to place the formation by putting 11 cards on the board..

but I'd say, its attractive to watch, but not very attractive to play with ^^

Actually these are very attractive to play.
But since you have to pay both cards and play fee, it costs you sooooo much moneys.
SEGA makes HUGE profits from these machines and this is how their arcade division maintains robust fiscal performance in recent years.

Do we know if this table is another entertainment application of this table:

The ps3 will have a game in oct call eye of jugement. It use's the new eye cam and these types of cards to project the card on your tv in 3d . I think this is a great idea can't wait to get it!!

I hope you show some yu gi-oh cards that would be so cool.

@10 Eye of Judgment was utter crap. and is not the same as this. This recognizes RFID signatures. Eye of Judgment needs the card to be shown to the camera, which is ridiculous in all but the best lit settings and is still boring to play at that.
