Sep 7 2007Drumpants Are Drums In Your Pants!

Odbol (Tyler Freeman), a guy who looks like he's playing with himself where ever he goes, has made a pair of drumpants. Drumpants are pants that have Piezo transducer triggers in them that become MIDI data, and are then pushed to a drum machine. So you basically play the drums by beating yourself in the legs repeatedly. It's a neat idea, but I'm up in the air about its coolness. It's weird, you'd think the person who made these pants would be a hardcore drummer, and be able to wail on those things. Instead, it was made by a kind of leprachaun who plays like my niece.
Video proof after the jump.

I've been a drummer for 30 years, and this would pretty much finish my collection of Dumb Drums From Around The World. I''m ordering some!

yeah, some of the worst drumming i've ever heard. i slap my legs without any pants on and it would sound 10 times cooler.
7. xfgnxghxtt - September 7, 2007 2:31 PM
#6 STFU it would not sound cooler because you are a dork and a loser.
Damn, that felt good to put into writing. I may just burn it into my toast!

who is to say that someone isnt playing the drums off screen? it would just take coordination
11. missa - September 7, 2007 5:05 PM
#10 my thoughts exactly. this vid proves nothing.
12. hjdfjhdh - September 8, 2007 3:08 AM
The vids prove you're a friggin' imbecile if you believe anyone with the coordination of the person onscreen could be matched by anyone off-screen. A pro drummer could not play like that to match the onscreen dude's off-time drumming and an amateur drummer, who would sound like that off-screen, could not match hand and foot beat for beat. It's impossible, and I am saying that as a drummer who can drum with anyone anytime anywhere without hearing their music beforehand. It's what I do.
7th!!

The guy sucks at playing drums. But this is certainly an interesting concept.
14. Mikey B - September 8, 2007 5:16 PM
I like the concept - would be fun for kids... and drummers bored at home smoking weed in their parents basement on my couch...

I wonder if it works with a spoon (or two) also, or if it only reacts to hands?

There is no spoon

I NEED these pants. With these pants, I would die a happy man. How would I wash these drums, in my pants?

Lies. The drums are being played by someone off camera.
23. missa - September 11, 2007 9:35 AM
I still think it's fake. It's a video of a guy slapping his legs. A GUY SLAPPING HIS LEGS. I mean, show me the pants themselves with the electronics in them and the rest of the set-up at work. I must see to believe.

Have to chime in and agree with hjdfjhdh - being a musician for 25 years (though not a drummer but that hardly matters) Watch closely... There is NO WAY this guy could coordinate hit for hit with another off screen. If it was a drum machine perfectly quantized then this jack off would still not be able to get it hit for hit. The only possible situation would be to go through and time each hit (being hand or foot) in an video editing program and sync it that way and who the fuck is going to sit there for the week that would take?
It's too perfectly synced to be fake.
