Aug 6 2007"Transparent" billboard

Artist Cayetano Ferrer created a "transparent" billboard by photographing the trees hidden by a 30-foot billboard in Daejeon, Korea and then pasting the image onto the billboard. He purposely removed a section of the billboard and put the missing piece of the image on another smaller billboard nearby. And in related news, I was supposed to put up a life-size picture of my wang on a billboard but it wouldn't fit. True story.

LAME

what a pity the artist didn't try and preserve accurate colour. it looks washed out and loses impact as a result.

Boring. It's been done before. This one isn't even as good as the previous ones I've seen. The color doesn't even match! If your going to make an illusion" like that, at least use an HD camera with very high color quality... *rolls eyes*

#2 & 3 This isn't the same as comparing a print ad to the screen art. It's like saying "wow they really should have color corrected the sky" in a f*cking postcard.

Did you really expect that a manmade flat surface could accurately depict the natural, three dimensional, organic, lush vegetation RIGHT NEXT TO IT? Take into account the lighting & atmospheric conditions, surface texture, and physical ability of the camera to capture "sameness" between 2 completely different objects.

You're missing the point of the billboard entirely in the first place.

can the point actually be that man *can't* capture the beauty of nature? or...yeah. I dunno.

Could*

You are all missing the point!

Road Runner could pass right through it, whilst Wile E Cyote would smash his face right into it.

"Meep, Meep!"

Yeah it only works when looking at a certian angle. And 'TQ' please tell us what the point of this freaking billboard is? What are they selling here? Please don't tell me it is more art.

Does the artist hate birds? Because, it seems to me that the artist must hate birds. Perhaps they killed his family.

The guy totally hates birds.

I mean, hell. I'd probably walk right into it.

Oh My God!

That is so amazing! Guys I can't believe how beautiful that is! GEnius, what could have been going through the artists mind when he created such an amazing piece of art. This one will be in the guiness book of records guys, this is going to be something our grandchildren will be talking about in years to come.

We are so lucky to have lived when this was created. These tears I have, are tears of joy. Joy that i have seen with my own eyes, a picture of a truly masterful piece of art.

If only all art was as transparent as this!

@no 4

no, i don't expect it to be utterly perfect but let's face it, a bit more effort could have been made to colour correct the image. i don't see why you have to have a hissy fit about it. are you the artist or something?

I'll admit I overreacted, but I tend to do that towards irreverence.

JoeMamma: I'm afraid it's exactly what you think it is. The way I see it, the original intention involves the marketability of being/thinking/acting "green" which is so painfully evident in everything these days.

Does it suck? Maybe. In order to make a statement, the artist commandeered a billboard and invested time/money into a large reproduction of the scene behind it. In my opinion, it was a waste of money and he should have just become a blogger on treehugger.com - at least then he would have made money :p

Come on... I can't believe we are talking about color balancing... fucking photo geeks, the point is obviously about the failure of representation, which is ironic since your making some cheesy uninformed comment on a couple photos that are shown completely out of context. Try not to be so jaded by your blog eyes, this is an awesome gesture... this is one billboard out of a million that isn't trying to sell you something, whose purpose is something other than filling some pockets, how about you explore it a little bit. TQ is the only one that did that, but I think there is some basic art history you need to understand to figure it out, but oh... right... this is the end of history anyway so who gives a shit. Forget it, I agree with everyone... lets just let sarcasm save us.

Wow I live in Daejeon, where is this exactly? I'll try to look for it and take pictures myself, lolll this is kinda cool
