Aug 21 2007Japan's Plan For World's Tallest Building

Inspired by Mount Fuji, Taisei Construction Corporation has completed designs for construction of the world's tallest building. The X-Seed 4000 would stand at approximately 13,123 feet (4 km), nearly 700 feet (213 m) taller than the real Mount Fuji. The next tallest buildings don't even break 2,000 feet, how puny! While likely to never be built, the X-Seed would have up to 800 floors, and be capable of housing between 500,000 and 1,000,000 people.
Unlike conventional skyscrapers, the X-Seed 4000 would be required to actively protect its occupants from considerable air pressure gradations and weather fluctuations along its massive elevation. Its design calls for the use of solar power to maintain internal environmental conditions. Some estimate that the cost to construct the X-Seed 4000 structure may be somewhere between $300-900 billion US dollars.
Now I'm no astronomer or anything, but if I learned anything in grade school, it's that 13,123 feet is pretty much the distance to the sun. Which means that the top floor would be perfect for a natural sauna. You heard it here first, if they end up doing that I want credit.
A few more conceptual pictures after the jump.

so pretty much it's like building a city within a city?
3. CC - August 21, 2007 10:36 AM
How long does it take to ride a sled 13,123'? Also, where do they sell sleds with titanium-reinforced bottoms?
Just curious.
4. uruwai - August 21, 2007 10:42 AM
Yawn...
This reminds me of the "Freedom Ship", another pharaonic project that has been going on for decades, only to scam imbeciles out of their ill gotten money.
Because every penny that is not mine has been ill gotten.
5. uruwai - August 21, 2007 10:44 AM
Someone has been watching too much anime...
6. darling nicky - August 21, 2007 11:06 AM
I saw it and thought ATARI TAKEOVER!
7. Ryan Ruel - August 21, 2007 11:15 AM
I like where he plans to place the "Robots".
8. sportner - August 21, 2007 11:24 AM
Where were you . . . when they built that ladder to hea-ven?
9. KRiPPeR - August 21, 2007 11:31 AM
lol, love the last pictures:
"skyscrapers", "robots", "nodes", "a midget", "ninjas", "pirates".
10. adam - August 21, 2007 11:43 AM
It looks like the last level in a videogame.
11. deb - August 21, 2007 11:56 AM
actually i'd say there are about 5 or so buildings being built around the world that are either 2,000 feet or more.
12. frunken - August 21, 2007 12:10 PM
That would be a fun elevator ride trying to get anywhere "Well we're home kids now just another hour to get to floor 538, just take a nap on the floor or something".
13. Warren Piece - August 21, 2007 12:12 PM
Deb - You sure? I thought the CN Tower in Toronto was still the tallest tower OR building.
http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0886190.html
14. Warren Piece - August 21, 2007 12:13 PM
That link I put goes to a tower height info page - no spam.
15. Joe Mamma - August 21, 2007 1:06 PM
The one in dubi or whatever is going to be the tallest. They still have yet to announce the final height though. It will be the first over 2000 ft. Their is a radio antenne that is at like 2500 ft or something like that though.
16. Joe Mamma - August 21, 2007 1:08 PM
Oh, and this has been on that Discovery channel show about building the future. It also shows other impossible construction projects too. It is still impossible with todays technology. Really they are no where close to actually doing it. It is just a dream still.
17. Eddy - August 21, 2007 3:42 PM
i'd settle for my own Halo...but that's just me...
18. Rolemodel - August 21, 2007 4:24 PM
It's funny how when the Japanese come up with an insane idea like this it's all over this site. I'm sure if the Indonesians or Iraqis came up with something like this it wouldn't even be news, just some crazy kid with a pencil and paper...
19. Rage - August 21, 2007 4:48 PM
This looks like a merge between two concepts on the first season of Extreme Engineering on the Discovery Channel. "Tokyo's Sky City" (mile high tower) and "City in a Pyramid".
Those last two pictures almost look like they were taken straight from there.
20. thomas - August 21, 2007 5:05 PM
This skyscraper was shown on the History Channel,or Discovery channel about two years ago... probably even older
21. Kinkle - August 21, 2007 5:15 PM
If you tried to commit suicide by jumping out of your window it may take a few hours before you die. Just imagine on the way down you decide maybe life isn't so bad after all. Oh well, Enjoy the ride!!!
22. RickO - August 21, 2007 5:29 PM
i could totally see godzilla smashing that up.
23. deb - August 21, 2007 5:33 PM
well for one, they just started construction on The Spire in Chicago which will be 2,000 feet tall when completed.
also, the FAA doesn't allow buildings in the US to be taller than 2,000 feet because of plane regulations and whatnot.
so other developers around the world are trying to one up us and are trying to build buildings that are 2,001 feet tall.
24. deb - August 21, 2007 5:36 PM
try worlds tallest buildings not towers....http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0001338.html
also if you think about a buildings habitable/useable space, i believe the sears tower still is the tallest building if you are going on useable space....
25. RandomNigel - August 21, 2007 5:52 PM
13 million miles to the sun...not 13 thousand feet...
Anyways, having people live in that thing? Won't they need to wear gas masks every moment they're in their apartment?
26. Alek - August 21, 2007 7:30 PM
lol @ robots
(last pic)
:)
27. blf2 - August 21, 2007 8:43 PM
considering that planes fly at 35,000 feet, it must be more like 13,000 miles to the sun. Check you math before making obnoxious comments.
28. sheryl - August 21, 2007 10:13 PM
@ 25&27:
Um...I am pretty sure the whole 13,000 feet thing was a joke. Obviously. And I hope your comment was a joke, too #27. Just not a funny one.
29. nominus - August 21, 2007 10:51 PM
Why waste time building this. They should just build the space elevator, then they could house all kinds of people in orbit. It would probably take them just as long to come down to the surface too. Plus, you could just get all the obnoxious people in one capsule, then chuck it out to space. Problem solved.
30. danielle p - August 22, 2007 2:41 AM
Let's do some word association... X-Seed 400 ... Tower of Babel... dangerous.... fire hazard.... expensive as hell..... ridiculous heating/ac costs... SWEET
31. Kmo - August 22, 2007 3:19 AM
What the heck!? "Robots"? Are they like: "Yeah! That's the place where we keep all the robots. You know... Autobots and Decepticons. And those massive 'vertical tanks' and stuff."
If you put that bunch together you'll surely end up with something of epic proportions. Like the biggest bonfire ever!
32. Matt - August 22, 2007 4:26 AM
Nicky got there before me with this idea but that IS just the Atari logo as a huge city/building!
Wow!
33. Keo - August 22, 2007 4:26 AM
Now if only it could fly...
34. Fredex - August 22, 2007 12:12 PM
i think they release things like this purely to maintain that they are crazy when in actual fact they are totally normal, its a ploy to take over the world...
35. morningstar - August 22, 2007 2:09 PM
Why?
36. icy - August 22, 2007 4:32 PM
i want one.
37. Mrav8er - August 22, 2007 8:33 PM
What, nobody figured out the name by now? X-seed = exceed. 13,123 feet / by 3.28 (converts feet to meters) = 4000.914, or 4001 meters. Excede 4000m. Even says 4km in the body of the text...
38. Faggot - August 27, 2007 12:39 PM
that actually makes a lot of sense, having it out on the water, eliminates terrorist threat since they can search everyone at the ferry.
the triangular support beams all throughout disperses pressure and is much more effective than regular buildings.
also, they are going to control the environment with mass plant life and solar energy.
God Bless those Yellow scumbags.
39. Morvium - September 1, 2007 10:47 PM
The earth orbits the sun at a distance of 92.3 million miles.

well....lookin at the huge structure over this earthquake prone place is cool man! why doesnt this question arise b4 into their minds whether it will be possible for this super heavy weight structure to stand over this constantly affected earthquake area? well but still the story looks cool but dreams are dreams sometimes....this is jus visualisation n animation but think of any1 of u holding a weight of......man there will cracks and faults in da crust........well well well .....think twicw b4 u act...dats all.....
51. CJ - December 9, 2007 7:54 PM
i can tel that this is not true
52. CJ - December 9, 2007 7:56 PM
wait the third picture shows that building over the ocean
53. Paul - January 3, 2008 4:54 AM
i want to know how the heck can japanese get a hold of $300-$900 Billions dollars when the US doesnt (not sure) have this much of money it self... this is jus crazy.. too much anime and if they wanna build something like this why not build a new world in space like they have it in gundam seed animes or others..just too insane
54. Caton Wells - January 8, 2008 6:47 PM
this looks like it's way WAY!!! taller then taipei 101 but my friend says it's not. but i think it is.
55. fuckin shitbag35654 - January 9, 2008 8:29 PM
this building is damn hot and sexy tall
56. jay - January 22, 2008 11:53 AM
well i say its a great effin idea... maybe a lil far fetched but the way the showed it on the history channel it seems possible.. but can also turn into a problem... oh an gud luck gettin $300-900 billion from america...
57. yaman wadhwani - January 25, 2008 12:46 AM
i am a student of delhi college of engineering[india]. i know that the structures are being constantly inspired by the nature. ihave dedications for my work and will stand till the end of the job . i would love to be a part of this wonder.
thanking you
58. robin - February 10, 2008 1:19 PM

59. Steveb - February 12, 2008 10:34 PM

it s impossible !!
60. monkey's rule - February 15, 2008 10:33 AM

in regaurds to the earth quake thing, you do realize that todays modern enginering has conqured the natural force of earth quakes
the imperial hotel in tokyo withstood a very large earth quake with little damage and that was built a very long time ago.
62. zeke - February 23, 2008 11:45 AM
omgfomguomgcomgk
63. viridiana - February 29, 2008 1:08 PM
yaawwwn. this idea is soo stupid.
i mean come on. why would people
need a building so tall.?
that's just retarded. seriously.
:D
64. ted - March 10, 2008 2:25 PM
the distance from earth to the sun isnt 13,000 feet or 13,000 miles its 92 million miles
65. Kayla - March 12, 2008 9:02 PM
...
It reminds me of Star Ocean from the opening clip...that's probably what it is.
You know, it's amazing and all... it would be INCREDIBLY SWEET if it was built, though.
THE FUTUREEEEE. Heh, I bet you could crash a plane into that thing and it wouldn't collapse... it would be a dent maybe.
What about earthquakes and all that natural disaster crap? Fire hazards!!! You'd have to escape out of a hovercar or something.
My ears pop just thinking about it.
66. Temple - March 13, 2008 9:28 PM
We could have built this thing with the hundreds of billions of dollars we are spending on the Iraq occupation. Did you know we are spending over a million dollars per hour over there?
67. him - March 18, 2008 7:22 AM
all will die together
68. uzair - March 18, 2008 8:09 AM
all of people living in sife(suppose) will die together
69. joey - March 21, 2008 1:00 AM
a stupid, pathetic, ridiculous, and horrible concept... when started, carpenters will work... then carpenters will die because of aging and yet the building isn't finish yet...
70. dj yfi - March 26, 2008 8:56 AM
until i see it being built i dont believe it ..............i saw an documentory on discovery channel but i still wont believe it til its starting to be built
71. red - March 26, 2008 4:38 PM
it looks. like it would be ugly. and stupid looking.
72. Alex - March 28, 2008 5:47 PM
This is the dumbest idea EVER!!!!!!!!!!! It will take MANY YEARS to build!!!?
