Jul 18 2007BODiBEAT matches music to exercise for you

Yamaha is introducing its BODiBEAT which they claim is "the first music playback device that synchronizes your music to the movement of your workout." It monitors your pulse and then selects music for you based on the pace of your exercise. The thing costs $300 and has 512MB of flash memory. Although I wonder what it would pick for me while I'm doing my daily workout of bench pressing 800 pounds. Maybe some Yanni? A little Britney Spears perhaps?

I have a feeling that the music would too often be techno.
I don't think you're gunna run into a whole lot of heavy metal on that thing.

I think it just changes the BPM\pitch of the music. Would work as long as you had some techno. As soon as you have music with vocals it would be ridiculous.
Maybe I'm wrong. It's a piece of crap either way.

Mine would never play anything. I am really lazy. Maybe it would play crickets chirping...

Or for free you can just make an iTunes playlist...but you know why have something for free when you can have it for $300?

I'd get it,
But then Dragonforce would become boring for me.

#3 - I was about to say that I was pretty sure that it just looks up the BPM of your tunes and plays a song that suits your heart rate (they use the word 'synchronize'), but then lower down it says it 'changes' the song. So now I'm wondering if it's not what you're saying. Way to not give us enough info, you tools (buggered if I'm filling out a form for more, either).
#4 - I think it just plays whatever you stick on there. If it's all metal, I'm pretty sure it won't spontaneously spew forth techno. Oh, and it's also got some pre-loaded drum loops which would obviously be of the highest grade of awesomeness and not at all repetitive and chintzy compared to your own tastes.
#6 - I'm with you. Any exercise music I've got on, I've hand picked because I know it's about my running or riding pace. It certainly doesn't take that long to select some music, even if you're as picky about it as I tend to be. I'll be the master of my own musical destiny, cheers very much Yamaha. And it's cheap as free for the privilege.
Wow, this was a really po-faced post from me...
*makes farting noises with my hand under my armpit*
Much better.

i don't know... do you want to have the music follow you, or do you want to set up a playlist so that you can set the pace you're going to follow?
although, the most exercise i get is walking up and down stairs to get to and from the subway.

Just a follow up to my previous rant...
Look, when I buy electronics, I'm not looking for something that I need to dust and looks like my grandfather's "stereo".
When I shop for personal electronics I need something that hangs from my ear or better yet, gets implanted.
Jay-zus Yamaha, that thing looks like something Fred Flintstone would wear.

This would be great to wear while having sex, but maybe it would be rude to wear headphones during the act?!
