Jun 14 2007Playground Fence

"Playground Fence", designed by Tejo Remy, is a playful re-interpretation of playground fences.
Not only are the protrusions and recessions of the fence eye-catching, but they allow for a more active interaction between those on either sides of the fence, providing seats, benches, nooks and playspaces for children.
It's a pretty neat idea, although it hasn't been put into use yet. Tejo says he's looking for public commissions for his design and I hope he gets them. The only fence I had to play with as a kid was electrified. Yeah, my parents were pretty strict.

I bet the pedophiles will like the idea of a nice seating area while they quietly watch the children play and attempt to coax them over.

"allow for a more active interaction between those on either sides of the fence"
What a brilliant way to protect our playgrounds from the cliche drug dealers peddling their candy to school children. Even with built in seats to nonchalantly pass packaged substances through whilst looking unaffiliated with those on the other side. Bravo

These fences have been around our airport parking lots in Phoenix for like 5 years now. I guess they are suppose to be artistic but they really just look like someone crashed into them with a car. Those ours do not have benchs in them.

I guess Tejo Remy thought "Hmm, how can I defeat every purpose of the fence and call it a "reinterpretation?"

"public commission" is just another word for taxpayer funded extortion since he can't sell his idea in the market place.
Honestly I like the design and think it's a great concept but leave my tax dollars out of it and sell the idea to someone who is interested in the PRODUCT!

so... the purpose of fences is to keep people out (or in), right? he just created steps over the fence...

I bet they were just really REALLY bad blueprints.

It also doubles as a very handy trip hazzard.

Why is the fence like that? Is it like a bench?
Thanks
