Deep Sea Creatures

The New York Times has a pretty nice (but short) slideshow featuring some deep sea creatures taken by French journalist Claire Nouvian for her film “The Deep: The Extraordinary Creatures of the Abyss.†The thing above is called the Dumbo Octopus, and it's probably the cutest thing living in the deep. Which isn't a hard title to get, considering everything else down there basically glows in the dark and has about a 1 billion fangs coming out of its mouth.

So apparently every year the town of Bilbao, Spain holds a 'Concurso de Feos' (Ugly Contest). Contestants are asked to make the ugliest face they can, and, judging from these pictures, they all won first prize. No word what the winner actually gets, but hopefully it's a brown... / Continue →
