The medals for the 2008 Olympics have been unveiled and, uh, here they are. So you better get started on your replicas now if you hope to have them ready in time for the actual games. "Why yes, that is my Olympic gold medal from competitive monkey wrestling."

One more shot of the reverse side after the jump.

is it just me or do they look lame?

No motivation to comment on half these new items. Be-boren'd.

finally, a country puts its own touches onto the ever soo standard "medal"

good job!

Well I was training for 20 years to be a flatwater canoeing gold medalist, but now that I see those I don't even want one anymore. Time to reevaluate my life. Bah.

what's the deal with the two ungold ones? which is which?

@ Nava

I'm going to go with that the silver one is silver, and the bronze one is bronze.

Boy those are fug medals. The color scheme just isn't good at all. I also think it would have been neat if they had written Beijing in actual Chinese characters too, along with the Roman characters.

they look kind of tacky...

The other side redeems them quite a bit, but I actually like them the way they are. They're simple, but elegant.

Here's the other side: http://images.beijing-2008.org/08/84/Img214028408.jpg

Looks like they got their inspiration out of iPODs...

WOW! KEWL!!

And to the Chinese athletes that do not win one they get the consolation prize of a lifetime in a work camp. Opps, sorry, I meant re-education camp.

My bad.

WOW! THOSE ARE SOME SUPER COOL SLAMMER POGS!!!!!!!!!
Oh, you say they are olympic medals? Quit being boring you damn NERD!

they released the design months ago...and they have a ring of jade in them which is why they have such a weird color scheme, but that's pretty sweet cuz they're putting some chinese culture into it...but i agree about the chinese characterrs @amy

Wow, those are some boring looking medals. :(

Um...nice Chinese takeout font. I think it was a bad move to go with the Chinesey font AND the foliage-print ribbon. Would've been much sleeker with just one or the other (a tonal border on the ribbon would've been much better).

Eh...The silver and gold ones are alright, but that gold medal is fuuuugly.

looks like a mcdonalds commemorative trinket.

These are almost as stupid as people actually getting chinese letters tattooed on themselves.

those look like crap.

These medals look like nock offs … which I guess is strangely appropriate.

the gold one looks good but the silver looks alright but the bronze is bad
