Apr 30 2007SENZ Umbrella is aerodynamic

The SENZ Umbrella is an aerodynamic umbrella which the manufacturer claims can withstand storms up to wind force 10. I'm not even sure what that means, but if there's one thing I've always said about my umbrellas, it's that I wish they were more aerodynamic. And also made out of chocolate.

I love that this story is related to 'Sex toys for your dog.'

Mary Poppins will never fly straight again... well unless you count flying straight into the propeller of an on coming plane.

@ argh, i guess the removed that tag. :\

Um... If that umbrella is so great, why did they do the photo shoot on a day with relatively blue skies?

Aerodynamic is nice and all, but what happens when the wind is at your back? I can imagine it spinning around and jerking right out of your hand when the wind changes suddenly.

I also notice that they don't show what the thing looks like closed. Here's a hint: a bat after a bender.

The umbrella I've been using for the last ten years was deformed by some high winds and now looks *exactly* like this.

Blah. What they need to do is engineer an umbrella that collapses differently, so that they could figure out a way to make an umbrella which, when collapsed, would be small enough to be on a keychain. Do that, which I'm working on (patent pending), and I will be impressed.

Force 10 = 55 - 63 mph winds...trees are uprooted and there is considerable structural damage...so while you are being blown away, you can keep the rain off of your head.
Force 12 is over 72 mph and is considered a Hurricane, btw.

stealth bomber on a stick.

I have an umbrella, but nothing like this. They make chocolate umbrellas now? Who'd have known.

This is also about SENZ! Made by some students!
