Apr 30 2007Scorpion vs Black Widow
A fight to the death between a scorpion and a black widow. Although the true winner in this epic battle was the heel of my shoe.

If black widows and scorpions cant get along, then what chance do we have...at being first?
2. Patty - April 30, 2007 8:02 AM
That was amazing...although I feel like they are crawling all over me now...
3. MobiusStrip - April 30, 2007 8:16 AM
Little bastard deserved it.
4. Bob - April 30, 2007 8:16 AM
Not a fair fight. The spider is out of the web and there fore is out of the element . Where as the scorpion is a ground fighter.
5. Felipe - April 30, 2007 8:45 AM
Actually... I didnt see Pinchy moving after the spider died. I guess that counts as a double KO.
6. BNew - April 30, 2007 8:53 AM
I don't know if it's more disturbing that people are enjoying something just a few tiers below a cock fight or that you can mail someone a live scorpion.
Probably the latter.
7. Brownian - April 30, 2007 8:55 AM
At the very least, show some close ups of the points where the scorpion stung the spider. Did it puncture the carapace or some weak spots at joints or other such thing? It would have been nice to glean a modicum of knowledge, but as it is this video has no redeeming value.
F***ing mooks.

Wow, I must be a nancy boy, but I actually am kind of sad now.
Agree with Bob, that was totally unfair. the spider was completely out of its element. Unfair fight.
9. ali - April 30, 2007 9:14 AM
i was really rooting for that widow.
wonder how 'pinchy' would do against shelob...
yes, i know she is a fictional spider...i'm so lonely.
oh yeah...erm...this is a grotesque display of animal abuse?
10. Mr B - April 30, 2007 9:20 AM
"I'm surprised at this."
"I'm surprised at that."
I'm surprised that so many people are actually taking this so seriously. And that so many people are feeling bad for a stupid spider.
11. vanman - April 30, 2007 9:31 AM
I agree, Mr. B. If the spider wasn't a terrorist, it wouldn't be dead. Plain and simple.
12. Papageno - April 30, 2007 10:13 AM
Stinky obviously failed miserably at his job.
But if it were so obvious, then why did I say it?!
13. Brownian - April 30, 2007 10:28 AM
vanman, what are you agreeing to? That Mr. B is surprised? How can you be sure?
I'll need more evidence of Mr. B's surprise before I can accept or refute his claim.
Well, Mr. B? The peer-reviewed academic journals await your data.

I think the makers of this video should have a fight to the death. It would be far more entertaining.
15. prozacship - April 30, 2007 11:45 AM
years ago, I set up the same fight with two scorpions and one black widow. The widow killed one scorpion and I threw in the towel. Kept my other scorpion and stomped on the widow.
16. Mr B - April 30, 2007 11:50 AM
I'm so surprised that I fainted.
17. Giulio Sciorio - April 30, 2007 12:41 PM
This is retarded. If I were 5 it would have been cool but to see you force them to fight eachother is pretty lame. Leave it to the pros on PBS to film this in nature.
What would have cool is if they bit you. I would have like to have watched that.
18. ali - April 30, 2007 2:19 PM
@ 17 who exactly are you addressing that comment to? I'm pretty sure the people who made that video are not reading this.
Poor Miss Widow, rest in peace. you will be missed.
F*** YOU PINCHY!
19. Jason G. - April 30, 2007 2:49 PM
It appears that the black widow doesn't have any traction on that surface. He looks really clumsy.
Of course that is moot considering the black widow would not be able to bite through the scorpions armor.
Also, my phone is on vibrate and rang shortly after round 2 started, and I can't stop shaking from the fear that a spider is on me.
20. Photoguy77 - April 30, 2007 2:58 PM
AWESOME..scorpions are the sh*t !!!
21. DC postergrl - April 30, 2007 3:03 PM
Unfair as the two would never really meet in nature. I say a rematch - throw Pinchy in a web just to even it up a bit. However, I am a bit saddened but then I remember how creepy they are and I'm all better.
22. James - April 30, 2007 3:10 PM
I agree that the spider could not get the traction he needed to put up a truly competitive fight. However, said widow did an excellent job of using his speed and agility to move in and out of the Scorpions range to maximize his biting opportunities. Despite being arguably the more feared of the two fighters, the spider to me would have to have been looked upon as the underdog coming in due to the scorpion having an iron jaw, and such an incredible reach advantage.
Were a rematch to be held on a stick or in a cardboard box one has to wonder if the result might turn out differently.
23. Eric - April 30, 2007 6:00 PM
That was awesome!
24. ali - April 30, 2007 7:12 PM
so who are the real winners? the ants, who got front row seats to an ass kickin'
25. Alex - April 30, 2007 8:20 PM
Wow... it aactually had me locked to screen...
Now, I want a rematch, but this time let's make it in a placer bedtter suited for the spider.
26. Twinkle - April 30, 2007 8:42 PM
stinky... i liked stinky.
27. ... - April 30, 2007 9:39 PM
that was cruel. there should be a people for ethical treatment of insects. PETI!
28. B - May 1, 2007 8:27 AM
The idea is good, however it looks like a retard with tourrette's filmed it. good job moron.
29. AC - May 1, 2007 1:37 PM
The web wont make any difference, it would be too weak for something so big.
30. Jane - May 1, 2007 2:32 PM
When I lived in Nevada we used to fight camel spiders (I think that's what they're called, they look like scorpions but without tails) and scorpions for hours of entertainment. Living out in the boondocks will do that to you.
31. julia - May 1, 2007 4:48 PM
wow....thats all i can say. too awesome/terrible/weird for words.

It's like my parent's divorce all over again...
33. Vahn M. - May 2, 2007 4:44 PM
That was a little, eh, kind of boring. Kind of interesting. What the hell is up with the beetle?
Anyway, the scorpion was the better fighter. It's made for that kind of fighting, anyway, while spiders are more like... sneak killers. You can't really rematch something like that, since, well, the spider's dead. There are no death match rematches.
Also, totally saw the scorpion move after killing the spider. It wasn't dead.
34. ksis - May 2, 2007 5:32 PM
i can't believe that you killed the scorpion at the end with your shoe. what a punk. that scorpion won fair and square. even if the black widow was out of its element.
35. Radon - May 2, 2007 6:40 PM
YES!
I was hoping pinchy would win.
36. Seven - May 2, 2007 7:02 PM
Bob summed it up. The ground and pound of the scorpion is simply unmatched and unfair outside of the spider's silk octagon. Although the spider maintained side control (or better) very well. And yeah, it's kind of a bummer to see two skilled fighters unwittingly have to go at it in a glass jar. Not a fair shake.
37. Kiki - May 2, 2007 8:06 PM
It's just a little sad...
38. Avenger48 - May 5, 2007 5:57 AM
Cool, but did anyone else notice that the ref could easily have been the one that killed the widow?
And for those of you who are talking about it being animal cruelty, it is no worse than the black widow being sprayed with bug poison.
39. Bair - May 16, 2007 6:37 AM
Poor little bugga!
Those tiny scorpians are very poisonous though. I think this guy's sister is a damn moron for sending it in the mail alive.
