Apr 25 2007Nintendo house

If you're wondering what the coolest house in the world looks like, this is it right here. Although the one I built out of The Fonz's sunglasses comes in at a pretty close second. "Heyyy!"
Check out more pictures of the Nintendo house here.

3. Cody - April 25, 2007 8:36 AM
yeah sure it's cool, ...but then you have people all up in your house 24/7, so wtf
4. MobiusStrip - April 25, 2007 8:37 AM
If someone hit the reset button, would there be a power failure, or would the house just explode?
5. 1-Ton - April 25, 2007 8:46 AM
Looks like it's made of cardboard and paper machet. Yup, that house'll last.
6. vanmanninite - April 25, 2007 8:47 AM
I hate to nit pick the shotty architectural attention to detail, but isnt that zelda cartridge upside-down?
7. MobiusStrip - April 25, 2007 8:51 AM
Wait a sec....is that duct tape there at the top?
Tsk tsk tsk... Already cracking.
8. Barry - April 25, 2007 9:17 AM
This is almost as cool as my house which is fashioned to look just like a cardboard box.
9. RTH - April 25, 2007 9:18 AM
I thought the same thing #6... all that work on the detail and they have the cartridge upside down..?
10. vanman - April 25, 2007 9:21 AM
yep #9. Really , what they should have done was have the power light blinking on and off, and the cartridge pulled out, and youd have to blow in the cartridge to gain entry to the house. Jesus, would it have been sooo hard to simply do that? Lazy architects.
11. vanman - April 25, 2007 9:32 AM
Okay, i did some research, and it seems (although i never had to) that people would put asecond cartridge in upside down to hold the first one day to get it to play.

i have a feeling the cartridge is upside down for a reason... i mean, i think anyone who would put together something so extravagant must have some idea how the NES actually works...
and i'm guessing the duct tape is representative of an actual NES that one of these guys owns.. which has been repaired with duct tape? maybe?

That's a booth for Carnegie Mellon University's Spring Carnival (I have my own photos of it from when I was there last weekend).

I think the duct tape is to identify who owns it, but I could be wrong. Anyway, it's a temporary gig and definitely not intended to last. I'd be surprised if it's still standing right now.

You can see frat letters on the side for SIgma Phi Epsilon - that's who built it.
And the cartridge is upside down to hold the other cartridge down so it will play. DIdn't anyone ever play Nintendo when they were a kid? You had to do anything to get the games to work.

awesome house!! i really wish it were in my neck of the woods to i could visit it.

This looks pretty similar to my old Nintendo, Duct tape with my name on it so it didn't get confused with my cousin's.. cartridge flipped upside down so that the cartridge currently in the machine would actually work...
I can't believe the amount of work they did for this only to tear it down after the carnival!
17. aarwenn - April 25, 2007 10:48 AM
To the commenter who posted about all the work Sigma Phi Epsilon did on this just to tear it down: we are a school of engineers. Besides building houses that must conform to most building codes (electricity, fire-proofing, water) in two weeks, we also put on amazing 13 minute musicals every year and build human powered race cars.
Also, did I mention we compete, very very seriously, over all three of these things, and also, all three of these things happen in three months?
Also, did I mention we're all certifiably insane? (All CMU kids out there: holla!)

FYI-SigEp one first place with this booth. They are required to stand for the three days of carnival, and then we have to have them off Midway by the end of the next day. It takes about 4 months to build and less than a day to destroy.
19. Nobody - April 25, 2007 11:56 AM
Wow aarwenn you make CMU kids sound like a bunch of pompous douchbags.
holla
20. Adam Darby - April 25, 2007 12:22 PM
no, Nobody, CMU kids ROCK! Fight for the glory of Carnegie!!!
21. not a tool - April 25, 2007 12:35 PM
Uhm. We're not all engineers, thank God.
22. vanman - April 25, 2007 12:58 PM
I'm an engineer! CHOO CHOO
23. MillardOn - April 25, 2007 1:00 PM
As soon as I saw this I KNEW it was carnival at CMU. I've only been once, but it's a sight to see!
24. aarwenn - April 26, 2007 1:13 PM
Hi, Nobody--I stand corrected. Most of CMU is really normal, it's just me. And the Creative Anachronismers. And the guy in the monkey suit riding the stationary bike, and Lobster Boy.
Okay, I'm kind of a pompous douchebag, it's true, but I'm an engineer. It comes with the territory.
Dammit, I just insulted all the engineers!
25. Smallest Giant Squid - April 27, 2007 2:36 PM
Why is the cartridge being loaded upside-down?
26. ro0 - May 28, 2007 1:33 PM
i think the cartridge is upside down so people can see the picture of said cartridge?
