Apr 6 2007iPod body armor

This guy was on street patrol in Iraq and as he rounded a corner, an insurgent shot him in the chest from just a few feet away. Fortunately, the bullet hit his iPod and was slowed down enough that it didn't penetrate his body armor and he was unwounded. Apparently an engineer at Apple caught wind of the story and is trying to help the guy get a new iPod. And me? Well I'm eating a giant bowl of cereal. So I guess we're all doing our parts to help out.

Because HP used to manufacture iPods for Apple. That's a 20gb model; probably a 3G. HP hasn't made iPods for a long while, though.

That...plus...who is Apple to tell me that I can't write Nintendo on my iPod?
And yeah, they haven't made iPods in a while, those were the good ones...

perhaps if soldiers weren't listening to their ipods while on street patrol the us would have more of a clue what's going on in iraq?

HP never made iPods, they just sold them.

iwonder, shut up! its only because of those ipod listening patrolmen that you cant make ignorant comments like that. You can hate the government, but I'll be dammed if you say anything about the brave men and women who let this country remain free.

Lol, shutup.

HAHAH "brave men and women who let this country remain free"
Wow. That's a stupid comment. Most of them exhibit bravery by being out of range. The unlucky bastards on the front line aren't "heroes". They are unlucky bastards who enlisted for whatever economic incentive sounded good and are tools in building and maintaining an oppressive regime.
This country has become LESS free in the last 8 years. Or have your eyes been taped shut by one of those hokey "support our troops" stickers that you haven't been able to notice.
Balls on chin to you!

Nice story but, sadly for Apple's PR department, it was the guy's new flak vest which caught pretty much all the energy of the bullet. An iPod really isn't going to do much to stop even a pistol round, let alone the 7.62mm R he was probably hit with.

Umm...Maybe if this guy wasn't listening to his IPod he would have been more aware of what was going on around him.
I agree 100%

A kevlar vest would protect the soldier, NOT an ipod.
If a Marine or soldier has an Ipod in their pocket DOES not mean they are listening to it, or you seriously that delusional, to think these men are chilling out listening to tunes in a warzone?? They're wearing helmits, patrolling. Perhaps the Ipod is for later, such as on base. They have music to keep them sane, to keep them connected to their culture that they are choosing to serve.
You OBVIOUSLY have met few Marines or service members if you think the reason they sign up is for an economic incentive. I LAUGH in your ignorant face, as EVERY MARINE that my husband is serving overseas with joined out of duty and respect for freedom. Last time I checked, not one of them put a price on their LIFE or separation from their loved ones.
For the record, I'm an intelligent manhattan dwelling artist with a computer genius husband, who just so happens to also believe in preserving freedom. Oh, and he supports Obama...so what now for your stereotypes?
other than that, am wondering what the REAL story behind the bullet wounded ipod came from?
Any Ideas?
